Activities: Scuba Diving
Excitement pervades the ship as we pass through Antarctic sound and enter the Weddell Sea. Vast, tabular icebergs, pack ice and a barren landscape hint we’ve stepped back in time. Ahead lie the setting for Shackleton’s and Nordenskjold’s polar survival epics, grand vistas and some of Antarctica’s greatest penguin rookeries.
Our guest paleontologist directs us to fantastic fossil fields from Gondwana and our scuba divers explore new sites on this, our inaugural diving voyage to the Weddell Sea. We finish on the Peninsula’s west coast, with its rugged alpine scenery and teeming wildlife.
“Exploring one of the most unpredictable bodies of water in the world, this expedition combines the contrasting east and west coasts of the Peninsula. Aurora pioneered many of the landing sites along these shores and we'll need all of our captain's vast ice navigation skills on this thrilling adventure.”
